DEADLINE – 1/9/2021 – The 1st SEPTEMBER 2021

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for passionate and engaging writing: ideas, storytelling and poetry – your work does not have to about Coventry – we welcome submissions in the following spirit…

ACHING MODERNITY / FANTASTIC REVELATIONS / EERIE WEIRD / HAUNTED FUTURES / ETERNAL MOTION / UNHOLY WATERS / FRIENDLY FIERCE / BLITHE SPIRITS / FLUXPLOSIVE IDEAS / BEAMING FRAGILITY / NEW ANCIENT / FLEET WONDERS / URBAN WILDNERNESS / BLISTERING OPAQUE / ACIDIC SUNS / RAGING HARMONY / FANTON SHUDDERS

We are NOT looking for straight historical work that simply re-tells old stories – for example the legend of Lady Godiva rewritten etc. etc. – we are much more excited by new creative work that tells YOUR story, not other people’s.

Disclaimer: we are not interested in publishing works that are racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic or ableist and nor do we wish to engage with people who hold any such opinions. We’re not really into any provocative ‘edgelord’ stuff either, it’s just not our style and we’d reserve the right not to publish any of the above.

EDITORIAL PROCESS

Adam Steiner of Silhouette Press will be managing submissions and working alongside with Dostoyevsky Wannabe regarding editorial decisions. DW will handle all production and publication – at their own time and expense.

Adam will be editing the anthology in the spirit of the DW Cities project, curating work that holds well together as a collection, while offering a range of styles and voices representative of Coventry.

We can only select up to 12 individual pieces of prose and/or pages of poetry for the anthology – this will make the selection process very difficult and some writers will not be included (we appreciate that this can be disappointing – but writers should bear in mind that rejection is a natural part of the process of submitting creative work – and is not necessarily a reflection of their work’s quality, style, genre etc. but can occur for myriad reasons, such as limited space in the anthology).

SUBMIT YOUR WORK

-We are open to short stories, creative non-fiction, and poetry
-Please keep your submission to 2000 words for prose, and 1-3 poems, each of 40 lines (max)
-File format – as email attachment – submit your work as MS Word files or open docs (such as google docs)
-File name – the title of your piece(s) and your author name – as you would wish it to appear in print
-Text/page format – no headers, no footers, no page numbers – please use a basic font like Times New Roman
-Please include a (brief) bio of up to three lines and link to your website/social media handle
-Submit your work via email : adam.steiner @ silhouettepress . co . uk
-Please include subject line: DW Cities Cov – “title” “author name”

DEADLINE – 1/9/2021 – The 1st SEPTEMBER 2021

Direct all queries / concerns to Adam at the above email address.

LAUNCH EVENT – 2022 [?]

The DW Cities Coventry anthology is scheduled to be released in 2022 – ideally during the City of Culture year – dates are TBC.

We would love to host a launch event with readings and give authors an opportunity to celebrate the anthology and meet one another. This is all to be confirmed relative to managing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, while ensuring the safety of authors, venue staff, and audience.

DW run a print-on-demand production process, so copies are only produced relative to purchase – however – SP will purchase a copy for each of the selected authors at its own expense and promote the anthology online, alongside DW. Find out more here – https://dostoyevskywannabe.com/publishing-models
