Matt writes for adults and children, for publication and for performance. He was Derbyshire Poet Laureate (2011-2013), and his poems are published in magazines such as Staple, The Rialto, The North and Magma. He has performed at numerous festivals in this country and abroad.

Birmingham-based poet and howler in John Peel-endorsed grinesters THE COURTESY GROUP-whose album received 4 stars in MOJO, and from Stewart Lee in “The Sunday Times”.

Helen Calcutt

Helen Calcutt is a poet and choreographer. Described as ‘radical’ ‘uncompromising’ ‘much like Emily Dickinson, surprising and new’ her poetry marks the presence of a ‘compelling new literary voice’ (Perdika Press 2013).

Associated with the traditions of European verse, her work has received global publication,  featuring in journals such as Equinox (Aude, France) The London Magazine (UK), The Salzburg Review (Austria) Poetry Scotland, and The New Yorker (U.S.A.) Calcutt has worked with institutions as diverse as Poetry International, Poetry By Heart and the National Trust. She is founder of radical contemporary project écriture corporelle  – a ‘bodily writing’ which launched at the internationally acclaimed Poetry International Festival in July 2014. The project is set to tour extensively across the UK in 2015. Calcutt is the author of ‘Sudden rainfall’ her first collection of poetry, published by experimental English publishing house Perdika Press. She is currently working on her second full-length collection under the working title ‘Siren’

Midlands based Poet and Artist. Once awarded a Foyle Young Poet award, once graduated from an MA in Creative Writing, twice turned the light switch on and off. An OCD for the OED. Once created a dictionary, twice forgot her own name. Works with homophonic translation, sound and visual poetry, draws with the aborogene and the pareidolia.

An evening of poetry (and open-mic) on the theme of CONFLICT

As part of Coventry Peace Festival (1-14 Nov) we are looking to take 8 lucky writers on a poetry field-trip to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffs (as featured in Heroes issue of HCE)

We will ask them to create poems based around their visit on the theme of CONFLICT – these will be printed on postcards for distribution at a poetry evening with the hope that people will send them across the world to promote the message of peace from the city – to get involved, please email: adam.steiner@silhouettepress.co.uk

Way back in June something happened that had not happened before. A group of poets and literateurs gathered for an evening of live music and poetry at the Tin Music and ArtsCentre. Under the aegis of HCE, the aim was to celebrate the contributors, the staff and the support for the magazine.

HCE Takeover The Tree House Bookshop and Antony Owen reads War Poetry

Gary and Adam, of HCE fame, will be taking over The Tree House Bookshop for a day, they wil be on hand to talk publishing, projects and new ideas – as well as to do some work!

In the evening, at 7pm, modern war poet, Antony Owen will perform a reading of his work to mark Armistice Day to be followed by a discussion on the act of Remembrance.
